Neither did I.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When I was deciding what to do after high school, I&nbsp;wasn\u2019t&nbsp;even sure college was the right move. I considered joining the Peace Corps or becoming a&nbsp;full time&nbsp;missionary. When I did picture college, my ideas bounced between being a medical examiner, a forensic scientist, or an elementary school teacher. I knew I loved helping people, I enjoyed crime TV, and my mom was a teacher.&nbsp;Ultimately, I decided I would attend Tarleton State to become a teacher.&nbsp;Why did I choose this? <em>Not sure<\/em>, maybe it felt familiar!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<h3 style=\"color: #4f2d7f;font-size: 20px;letter-spacing: 0px;text-transform: None;font-family: Raleway, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;font-weight: Normal;line-height: 34px\" class=\"ub_advanced_heading wp-block-ub-advanced-heading\" id=\"ub-advanced-heading-c9255832-15f7-445b-bf9f-7313229ea562\" data-blockid=\"c9255832-15f7-445b-bf9f-7313229ea562\"><strong><em>It\u2019s\u00a0okay if your plan changes<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>Before stepping on campus, my mom encouraged me to think beyond teaching.&nbsp;So&nbsp;I went <strong>back to the drawing board<\/strong> and chose General Business. And why did I choose this? Well, I didn&#8217;t know that General Studies existed.&nbsp;I just knew <strong><em>I needed time and options.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Halfway through college, I landed a graphic design internship <em><strong>simply because it sounded fun<\/strong><\/em>. I ended up loving it and added Art and Digital Media Studies minors to my degree plan. Today, I have been a&nbsp;full-time&nbsp;graphic designer for two years.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><strong>At 18, I had no idea that my current career was even possible&nbsp;for me.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<h3 style=\"color: #4f2d7f;font-size: 20px;letter-spacing: 0px;text-transform: None;font-family: Raleway, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;font-weight: Normal;line-height: 34px\" class=\"ub_advanced_heading wp-block-ub-advanced-heading\" id=\"ub-advanced-heading-e30b04f7-d4bc-4dc9-912c-2a0b40ee487d\" data-blockid=\"e30b04f7-d4bc-4dc9-912c-2a0b40ee487d\"><strong><em>Majors that can lead to many career paths<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>If you are unsure about your future career, choosing a broad or flexible major can give you time and options. These types of degrees focus on skills that transfer across industries, like communication, problem solving, and leadership.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Some examples include:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/programs.tarleton.edu\/general-business-bba\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">General Business\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/programs.tarleton.edu\/marketing-bba\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Marketing<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/programs.tarleton.edu\/communication-studies-bs\/\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/programs.tarleton.edu\/communication-studies-bs\/\"><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/programs.tarleton.edu\/communication-studies-bs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Communication Studies<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/programs.tarleton.edu\/psychology-bs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Psychology<\/a>\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/programs.tarleton.edu\/criminal-justice-bs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Criminal Justice\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/programs.tarleton.edu\/agribusiness-bs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Agribusiness<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/programs.tarleton.edu\/general-studies-bs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">General Studies\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These majors do not lock you into one job. Instead, they open doors to a <strong><em>variety of industries and graduate programs.<\/em><\/strong>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-advgb-button alignfull is-style-squared\"><a class=\"wp-block-advgb-button_link advgbbtn-35b34ae9-7455-429f-bfbd-3530b6a59d9f\" href=\"https:\/\/programs.tarleton.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span>EXPLORE MORE MAJORS<\/span><\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<h3 style=\"color: #4f2d7f;font-size: 20px;letter-spacing: 0px;text-transform: None;font-family: Raleway, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;font-weight: Normal;line-height: 34px\" class=\"ub_advanced_heading wp-block-ub-advanced-heading\" id=\"ub-advanced-heading-11480d84-55fd-4926-9182-38d796ec4174\" data-blockid=\"11480d84-55fd-4926-9182-38d796ec4174\"><strong><em>Start with your basics<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>Your first year or&nbsp;two of&nbsp;college is typically&nbsp;spent&nbsp;completing your&nbsp;basic courses. These classes are&nbsp;usually&nbsp;required&nbsp;across many majors and allow you to explore different subjects without committing too early.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By taking your basics early in your college career, you give yourself more time to decide what path might suit you best. I had plenty of friends who <strong><em>switched majors and still graduated on time <\/em><\/strong>because their early basic courses applied to their new degree plans.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<h3 style=\"color: #4f2d7f;font-size: 20px;letter-spacing: 0px;text-transform: None;font-family: Raleway, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;font-weight: Normal;line-height: 34px\" class=\"ub_advanced_heading wp-block-ub-advanced-heading\" id=\"ub-advanced-heading-e577fb11-0e44-4aa3-917e-74b2801fae44\" data-blockid=\"e577fb11-0e44-4aa3-917e-74b2801fae44\"><strong><em>Use electives to explore what you enjoy<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>When you find&nbsp;something&nbsp;you enjoy, you can often <strong><em>add it to your degree plan<\/em><\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many degrees allow room for electives. My degree plan included 30 elective hours, which gave me the flexibility to add two minors, Art and Digital Media Studies. Once I realized I wanted to pursue a creative role, adding these minors strengthened my resume and helped shape my career path.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:30px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n<h3 style=\"color: #4f2d7f;font-size: 20px;letter-spacing: 0px;text-transform: None;font-family: Raleway, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif;font-weight: Normal;line-height: 34px\" class=\"ub_advanced_heading wp-block-ub-advanced-heading\" id=\"ub-advanced-heading-27408578-1893-4cec-b995-1794a98654fc\" data-blockid=\"27408578-1893-4cec-b995-1794a98654fc\"><strong><em>Your next step does not have to be your final one<\/em><\/strong>\u00a0<\/h3>\n\n\n<p>So&nbsp;this is my encouragement if you&nbsp;don\u2019t&nbsp;know what major to choose.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You&nbsp;don\u2019t&nbsp;have to know exactly what you want to do right now.
