Blog Graphic Submitting FAFSA 1

Financial aid can seem like a lot to learn, but the first thing you need to know is that you must submit your FAFSA or TASFA first in order to receive ANY financial aid. Let’s break down submitting your FAFSA/TASFA.

Do I complete the FAFSA or TASFA?

We have a blog written here to help you determine which application you should complete!

If you need to complete the TASFA, refer back to the blog above for the application and how to submit. The short answer is most US citizens, permanent residents, and eligible non-citizens will complete the FAFSA (federal aid application) while non-citizens that are Texas residents will complete the TASFA (state aid application). The TASFA application for 2023-2024 is coming soon!

How to submit your FAFSA?

The financial aid application process does not take as long as you would think, and it does not have to be finished in one sitting.

First, you must create your account and FSA ID at studentaid.gov. An FSA id is your secure login information that protects all the information you will share on the app. Go ahead and save your login information for easy access when you’re ready to log back-in!

Next, you will complete your FAFSA by completing the application and providing all the information needed to complete the FAFSA.

You will need:

  • Your Social Security Number
  • Your Alien Registration Number (if you are not a U.S. citizen)
  • Your federal income tax returns, W-2s, and other records of money earned. (Note: You may be able to transfer your federal tax return information into your FAFSA using the IRS Data Retrieval Tool.)
  • Bank statements and records of investments (if applicable)
  • Records of untaxed income (if applicable)
  • An FSA ID to sign electronically.

If you are a dependent student, you will need the above information from your parents as well. We recommend getting this information ready to go before you sit down to complete the application.

Now, complete the application and submit. Don’t forget to send your FAFSA to the schools you are applying to. Tarleton’s FAFSA code is 003631. Once you have submitted, you can double-check that your FAFSA is being processed by checking the status online at studentaid.gov. You will receive a notification when your student aid report becomes available. Always review it!

Sometimes you will be required to complete verification in order for your aid to be disbursed. This just means that Student Aid needs to verify the information that you submitted is correct.. For more information read more here

Finally, you will receive your financial aid notification and can accept your aid based on what you will need. Link to blog next steps:

You are now ready to be a Tarleton Texan with financial aid! Before the semester begins, we will let you know when your aid will be paid out.
