There is something in the way
it grips me every night.
Cradling me so softly,
to ease the bitter bite.

Prisoner of uncontrolled emotions,
what happens will not be undone.
Though they rip and ravage me,
there is no will to run.

Break out the padded shackles,
for willing am I ever
to risk it all for something more
than to age with nothing, never.

Accept this sweetness inflicted,
but caution must live in you
for there is nothing more lethal
than broken hearts pursued.

These memories are lifeless friends,
but the lack will cause regret.
Do I choose to remember you
or shrink to forget?
I will smile, not cry to reminisce
