Escape

April Davies

I’m back once again
To this old familiar place
I sit here in silence
As the tears stream down my face

At first a sting
And then a sigh
Adrift on the sea
While flying so high

A slide of the wrist
As the blade meets the skin
And I promise myself—
Not ever again

I’m back once again
To this old familiar place
I sit here in silence
As the tears stream down my face

You shine like a diamond
In my hands you’re sharp and cold
I long for your new pain
To forget about the old

In your distorted reflection
I can almost see my face
But with each time I come here
A small part is erased.
