Test Optional Policy

First-time freshmen applying to Tarleton State University through undergraduate admission will not be required to submit an SAT or ACT test score as part of their admission application to Tarleton. New first-time freshmen ranked in the top half of their graduating high school class will be automatically admitted.

New first-time freshmen are, however, still encouraged to submit their SAT/ACT test scores for reasons other than automatic admission consideration, including:

  1. Enhanced prospects for competitive scholarship awards
  2. Possible TSI (Texas Success Initiative) exemption
  3. For students ranked in the 3rd quarter of their graduating high school class, SAT/ACT scores may support admission consideration in individual review

Tarleton State University will continue to monitor the ability of SAT and ACT to administer their exams which can be used for competitive scholarship awards.
