The Next Steps below is a general guide for students. These steps can vary for freshmen and transfer students. They will also vary by campus locations (Stephenville, Fort Worth, Waco, Midlothian, Online).

UID Lookup

To access your myGateway account, Login with your UID and PIN. If you have forgotten your UID, you may look it up. Once you have logged in to myGateway, you can select the Student tab to find information on your registration, financial aid status and scholarship status.

Submit your Scholarship Application

  • December 1 - Early consideration deadline
  • February 15 - Priority deadline for Fall 2018/Spring 2019 scholarships

The Tarleton State University Office of Scholarships is committed to providing assistance to students in pursuit of their education.

Scholarships are awarded for academic ability and achievement, demonstrated leadership, ability to perform (music, band, etc.), extracurricular activities, financial need, and other criteria as defined by specific scholarship programs.

More than 400 different endowed, local, departmental, and other scholarships are available to students attending Tarleton State University. Tarleton has one application for all scholarships. Scholarship applications are sent to the various scholarship committees based on the information provided on the application.

Submit your Housing Application

  • September 18 - Fall 2018 application will open.

Complete your FAFSA Application

  • October 1 - 2018-19 Free Application for Federal Student Aid OPENS!
  • March 1 - FAFSA priority filing date for Fall 2018
  • Late March/Early April 2018 - Freshman financial aid award letters sent
  • June 2018 - Continuing student financial aid award letters sent

Fall Applicants and current students can begin submitting their FAFSA application for the upcoming academic year in January. Spring and Summer applicants and current students can submit their FAFSA application any time prior to the chosen semester.

Texas Success Initiative (TSI) Assessment

Freshmen must provide TSI Assessment scores and/or exemptions to Admissions prior to receiving an invitation to Texan Orientation.

Transfer students must provide TSI Assessment scores and/or exemptions to Admissions prior to registration.



Bacterial Meningitis Requirement

Once you are admitted to the university, your name will be submitted to Magnus Health for the creation of an account and could take up to 24 hours. Follow the instructions to submit your vaccination record or exemption to Magnus Health through your myGateway account. If you wish to decline the vaccination or are taking online courses only, additional information is provided in the Frequently Asked Questions.



Academic Advising and Registration

  • Advising
    • First time freshmen and Transfer students with less than 12 hours - Students must complete a Texan Orientation (see below) or an Online Orientation first.  Students will be contacted by Transition and Family Relations with more information.
    • Transfer students - Stephenville students can meet with an advisor in the Academic Advising Center.  Off campus students can contact an advisor at the location they will be attending.

New Student Registration Day

  • January 2018 - Registration for New Student Registration Day OPENS!
  • April 2018 - July 2018 - New Student Registration Day (Advising and Registration) dates

All first-time freshman and transfer students with less than 12 hours who are admitted for a fall semester are required to attend a face-to-face New Student Registration Day. Invitations are sent by email to students in January prior to the fall semester.

All first-time freshman and transfer students with less than 12 hours who are admitted for a spring or summer semester are not required to attend a New Student Registration Day.


Duck Camp

This three-day event provides students with the opportunity to meet their new classmates, learn about Tarleton traditions and to have a lot of fun in the process.


Texan Transition Week

Texan Transition Week is designed for first-time freshmen entering a fall semester. This week provides students with the tools necessary for a successful transition into the academic and campus life community. Students will be completing requirements of the First Year Seminar course during the week. This week you will take the first steps towards becoming a college student and joining a great legacy at Tarleton State University! Transition Week is mandatory for all first-time freshmen.


Activate your Tarleton Email and Claim your Network ID

Once you are registered for your courses, you can then claim your network ID and set-up your Tarleton email account. All Tarleton communication will be sent to your Tarleton email account. It is very important for you to check your email on a regular basis.


Submit your Final High School Transcript

If you are a first-time freshman, you must submit a final high school transcript upon graduation. Certain grants may not be disbursed if your final high school transcript is not received by the Admissions Office. It is best to request that a final transcript be sent be as soon as your graduation date has been posted.

Submit your Dual Credit/College Transcript(s)

In order to receive college credit for your dual credit courses and other college/university courses, you must submit an official college/university transcript. We cannot post dual credit from a high school transcript. Please complete a request at all colleges and/or universities you attended.

Official AP/CLEP scores must be sent directly from College Board for evaluation.

How do I request official AP scores?

You can obtain your scores by visiting the College Board site.

How do I request a CLEP transcript?

If you are a civilian test-taker, find information online about how to obtain CLEP transcripts, or call 800-257-9558 (8 a.m.-6 p.m., ET, Monday-Friday) if ordering with a credit card (American Express, MasterCard or Visa only).

If you are a military service member or were in the military when you tested, find more information online about CLEP for Military or call 877-471-9860 (toll-free) or 651-603-3012 to order a military transcript.
