Graphic Designer

The graphic designer will be responsible for creating marketing materials for the Division of Student Affairs. The person in this position will work cross-departmentally to aid with marketing campaigns that may include design of banners, brochures, flyers, posters, logos, advertisements, social media graphics, and various other publications or graphics. Basic expectations of the graphic designer are as follows:

  • Develop and execute design projects that specifically meet the needs of the clients consisting of Student Affairs departments and organizations.
  • Assist in developing marketing campaign ideas to promote Student Affairs programs and services.
  • Assist with normal tasks associated with The Source that include, but not limited to, fulfilling orders pertaining to simple designs and professional printing.
  • Maintain shifts as needed at The Source’s front desk area.
  • Design advertisements for JTAC News as needed that meet the specifications of the advertiser.
  • Assist JTAC News as needed with design of templates, pages, graphics, photo art, etc.
  • Assist with the development of graphics and/or images for use in Student Affairs videos.
  • Take photos or assist in coordinating photo shoots for use in Student Affairs publications.
  • Organize all current projects, check progress, receive and/or provide feedback, and maintain real-time updates within the department’s online project management system.
  • Meet all deadlines as prescribed by the project manager.
  • Work with the university’s Marketing and Communication Office to ensure that all university graphic and branding standards are met and adhered to;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Techinical Requirements:

The desired candidate should possess strong project management skills, be self-motivated, require little to no supervision, be able to work in a collaborative environment and be able to maintain client relationships. The candidate should also be advanced in design software such as Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Premiere Pro, etc.).

General Requirements:
  • 1-2 years of experience in related position or academic coursework preferred
  • Good organizational and time management skills
  • Exhibit good office etiquette
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Exhibit good interpersonal skills
  • Demonstrate good customer service skills, both internal and external
  • Observe the confidentiality of data
Optional opportunity:

This position can be designed to serve as an Intern2Learn (based on financial need), Applied Learning Experience (ALE), or academic internship opportunity. To qualify, the following additional qualifications must be met:

  • Serve as project manager for at least two small- to medium-sized marketing projects.
  • Maintain a journal during work experience considering student learning outcomes
  • Post a reflection annually addressing the R.E.A.L. student learning outcomes on Portfolium
  • Post at least one artifact annually that reflects your out-of-classroom experience to Portfolium
  • Post a resume annually on Portfolium

Photo Editor (JTAC News)

The photo editor will be responsible for ensuring comprehensive, high-quality photo and video coverage for print, online, and social media. Additionally, the photo editor will manage photo equipment inventory and ensure that all submissions are properly archived and easily accessible. Applicants must be in good academic and disciplinary standing with the University. General expectations of the photo editor are as follows:

  • Meet established deadlines;
  • Maintain regular office hours;
  • Attend weekly editorial board and all-staff meetings as scheduled by the editor-in-chief;
  • Work with the assignment editor and editor-in-chief to ensure art accompanies all written content for both print and online;
  • Communicate regularly with Grassburr editorial board to organize assignments to avoid duplication;
  • Receive, review, edit, and archive all submitted photos;
  • Delivers assignments to staff contributors;
  • Train contributors on best practices for effective cutline writing;
  • Bear responsibility for all photo coverage, photo placement, and cutlines for both print and online;
  • Assist editor-in-chief or designated page one editor in securing high-quality art each week for the cover design;
  • Work with the associate editor to publish photos online on a regular and timely basis;
  • Assist editor-in-chief in developing video content for online and social media channels;
  • Maintain all camera equipment inventory, which includes charging batteries, emptying SD cards, cleaning lenses, checking flashes, etc.;
  • Work with The Source staff on check-out procedures of camera equipment;
  • Ensure photographers are fully aware of policies and procedures related to camera equipment usage;
  • Assist editor-in-chief with personnel matters that may include the recruitment, hiring, or discipline of contributing staff members;
  • Keep track of submissions and file weekly contributor compensation reports with the editor-in-chief;
  • Contribute at least two submissions per week for print and/or online;
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Technical Requirements:

The desired candidate should possess strong management skills, be self-motivated and require little to no supervision. The person in this position should also have an ability to artistically conceptualize and execute high quality photos. The completion of at least one (1) college-level photography or digital media course is a plus. The candidate should also be proficient in design/editing software such as Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, InDesign, etc.).
