Recreational Sports Department goes by a new name

Beginning Fall 2017, the formerly named Recreational Sports Department which oversees the university’s fitness and wellness programs, outdoor pursuits, club sports and intramurals, will go by a new name, Campus Recreation. The ultimate objective for the name change and rebranding is to provide a more extensive and inclusive number of service which will be made available to all Tarleton State University students and Campus Recreation members.
The name change became official in January and is intended to promote the diverse nature of programs offered by the department.
“We pride ourselves as a department which offers something for everyone. We are more than just sports and our name should reflect that,” said Associate Director for Tarleton State University Campus Recreation, Daron Trussell. “We want to make sure that our students are aware of all the many opportunities that are available through Campus Recreation and we strive to provide these students with a place to work on their personal, wellness goals.”
With the name change, the department will be bringing awareness to various components of health and wellness across the institution. Campus Recreation will be utilizing the opportunity to focus on comprehensive well-being even beyond physical health. Campus Recreation will continue to seek out new opportunities to deliver programs that explore other dimensions that are inclusive to all students and Campus Recreation members. The future for this department ultimately involves providing outlets to recreation which students can implement as habits into their daily lives both today and for years to come.
