What are the Writing Intensive Requirements?

To fulfill the Writing Intensive Program requirements, students subject to the WI requirement must pass four writing-intensive courses:

  • Two writing-intensive courses at the Core level; these courses should be freshman composition.
  • Two upper-level writing intensive (WI) courses within the student’s major or designed for the degree plan.

The Writing Intensive Program begins fall 2007. The students who will be required to fulfill the Writing Intensive requirements will be students who enter Tarleton in fall 2007 as first-time freshmen (students with with no college credits), entering students with 29 hours or less through earned credit (credit through AP, CLEP, IB, or dual credit courses), and transfer students with 29 hours or less transfer credit hours. This "inaugural class" must complete Tarleton’s Writing Intensive Program requirements as a condition for the baccalaureate degree.

All other students—returning Tarleton students, transfer students the 30 hours or more, new students with earned credits of 30 hours or more—will still be required to take the Writing Proficiency Exam.
