The Student Wildlife Society’s first meeting was a social that was held at the Hunewell Bandstand in Heritage Park at 7 pm on September 8, 2009. The officers arrived around 6 pm to start setting up the tables, chairs, and BBQ pits. Around 6:45 pm Dawson and Zac started to cook the hot dogs and hamburgers and the food tables were set up. Megan went to get the 5 large Domino’s pizza at around 6:50 pm. People started to arrive at 7 pm and an attendance sheet as well as membership forms were handed out to anyone who wanted to join the SWS. We sold SWS t-shirts and other SWS merchandise.
Before the food was served the president, Travis Sagebiel, and the president-elect, Chad Wilson, greeted everyone and thanked them for coming. They also had a few announcements pertaining to volunteering events at the Big Game Awards, Lake Navarro, and helping with spotlight counts. Then returning member Alan Matthews gave a brief overview of what Quiz Bowl was and passed around a sign-up sheet for anyone interested in joining. After the food was served and everyone ate, giving new members a chance to talk with existing members, people started to leave and the returning members started to clean up the area we were in around 8:30 pm.
