For Students: WS_FTP Home
WS_FTP Home is a program that is free to faculty, staff and students and is available to download from http://www.ipswitch.com. This is a PC program and is not available for Macintosh users.
The first time you use WS_FTP you must create a session profile. This will give the program some information on the machine you are publishing your files to. When you run the program, the first thing you will see is a dialog box similar to the following:
Step 1

Step 2
Step 3
Step 4
Step 5
If there is any information besides what show above, click the New button and fill in the following information:
Site Name: My Site (or whatever you want to name it)
Server Address: ftp://www.tarleton.edu/students/username
UserName: Fill in your username for your web account.
Password: Fill in your password for your web account.
Click Finish and WS_FTP will log you in to your account. If the program prompts your for your password again, just retype your web account password and click ok.
The screen now shows files that are on your computer in the left column and files that are in your folder on the Tarleton internet web server on the right column. To move files to the web server, find your files on the left hand side by clicking the green arrow to go up a directory level or click the name of a directory to open it and see the contents. For example if your files are in your temp directory on your harddrive c:, you would click the green arrow to go up one directory to Program Files. One more click on the green arrow takes you up to the main directory of c:, and then clicking on the temp directory in the left hand column opens the temp directory and displays the files in that directory.
To transfer files, simply highlight your html and graphic files by clicking on them once. Then click the --> arrow in the middle to send files to the other side of the screen. Your files should then appear in the column on the left hand side. Click the close button at the bottom of the screen and click exit.
