Demand for Teachers
Links to School District Websites
To view employment opportunities in a school district, you may find job postings on the district website home page listed under “Employment” or under “Departments” and then “Human Resources.”
Demand Profiles
On the demand profiles, "Balanced Demand" means jobs are available, but you should expect competition from other applicants. "Limited Demand" means you will find significant competition for jobs and may have to drive some distance from your home or relocate to be closer to the school district where you find a job.
Is teaching an easy job? I thought to myself that my first year should be easy and I was lucky not to be stuck in a low class, poverty-stricken area. How wrong my thoughts turned out to be!
Now is a good time to become a teacher!
Texas school districts are struggling to find enough teachers to replace those who are retiring and especially to meet the 2006 legislative "4x4" requirement to teach four years of science and four years of math in grades 8 through 12.
The Texas Workforce Commission (TWC) estimates that Texas will need at least 17,342 new teachers each year through 2014, which translates into 87,160 new teachers in the next five years. Demand for specific kinds of teachers varies by region and even within school districts.
