As I prepared for the first class day, it hit me: I am a teacher. When I began contemplating all the responsibilities that came with teaching, fear and trepidation became foremost in my mind. So, I reverted to my training to help me prepare for the first class day. I decided the best way to overcome my fears was to jump right in and do the best job I could.

Before beginning the formal application process, be sure to:

  1. Meet TMATE program entry requirements.
  2. Choose a certification area and program location.
  3. Understand TMATE program costs.

Apply to the program. The application process consists of four steps:

  1. Submit your complete TMATE program application to your program location office;
  2. Completion of appropriate entry test: THEA, TASP, or Accuplacer for certification only; and the GRE if you intend to pursue the master degree.
  3. Apply for financial aid if you will need it to complete the program; and
  4. Observe teachers and students in a classroom, interview with TMATE program staff, and provide a writing sample.

A few weeks after TMATE program staff receives your application, you will be mailed an evaluation of your courses and an acceptance or denial letter.  The TMATE staff will provide you information on the observation requirements, interview session as well as spring and summer registration.

We are looking forward to working with you!
