TMATE Program Entry Requirements

Minimum entry requirements are:
- A bachelor's degree or better. Applicants with out-of-country degrees must have their transcripts equivocated by an approved agency.
- An overall grade point average (GPA) of 2.75
- A 2.75 GPA in your certification area
- At least a 2.5 GPA in your last 60 hours of undergraduate coursework (to meet Tarleton graduate school admissions requirements)
- Entry Level Test: either the THEA, Accuplacer or GRE:
- Passing scores on all sections of the Accuplacer or THEA (TASP) scores for those pursuing certification only
- Acceptable GRE scores for those who intend to count TMATE coursework towards Master's Degree
- 30 hours of classroom observation in the intended certification area (please contact the TMATE Office where you intend to apply for further information)
- An oral interview session and completion of an essay
Because TMATE participants already have their Bachelor's Degrees, TMATE is considered a graduate program, and therefore you also must qualify and apply for admission to the Tarleton College of Graduate Studies. Graduate admissions requirements depend on whether you are applying to the graduate school only to complete the TMATE program or as a Master's Degree candidate.
Past Students
Curiously, teaching the subject matter has been the least concern of my first year of teaching. I have learned that the role of a teacher goes far beyond imparting knowledge of a subject to students.
--Ken Frazier, 2006-2007
I can't remember a year in college when I learned as much as I did this year. I might have to learn more bookwork, but I learned more about myself this year.
--Conan Sachsenmeyer, 2006
