TMATE - College of Education - Tarleton State University - Teaching, Internships, Certification, Curriculum and Instruction

You could change a child's life. . .

My life will never be the same. I fell in love with my chosen profession and all the challenges I wake up to face every day. The least of my worries was teaching content. That is the easy part. . .

Laura Rogge, 2006-2007

Teaching is more difficult than I thought. I now see that teaching is hard work. It is also a tremendous responsibility and not to be taken lightly. I must go into the classroom every day being prepared and confident. Molding young minds is a serious task requiring considerable energy, enthusiasm and patience.

The Tarleton Model for Accelerated Teacher Education (TMATE) program helps highly motivated people who already have a bachelor's degree become certified teachers in Texas.

With small classes and personal attention, TMATE offers thorough preparation for classroom teaching. The Spring Mini-Mester prepares you for state mandated content knowledge examinations. Summer, fall and spring semesters of graduate courses introduce you to the art and science of teaching. During your internship year, a mentor teacher and TMATE staff provide advice and encouragement while you practice what you are learning in class.

TMATE's reputation as an exemplary teacher certification program and the classroom success of its almost 2,000 graduates make TMATE participants very attractive candidates for school districts seeking to hire beginning teachers.

Alternative teacher certification programs like TMATE are regulated by the State Board for Educator Certification (SBEC). You can't just "take a test and become a certified teacher." You must complete an approved program.
