Passing the Writing Proficiency Examination (WPE ) is a requirement for all students receiving a Bachelor's Degree from Tarleton State University.  The WPE consists of a 500-word essay, graded by Tarleton faculty, on a choice of predesignated topics relevant to college students.
  • Students are eligible to take the exam after 45 semester hours.
  • The WPE is offered once each semester.  (See dates in current catalog.)
  • Students should visit the Writing Center for assistance with the WPE.
  • The WPE is a requirement for admission to the Tarleton State University Teacher Education Program.
  • Students must register for the exam at University Testing, located in the Humanities Bldg., Room 370.  Dates are posted across campus and listed in the University Catalog.
