| Out of hundreds of professions, Sociology was 24th in
Money Magazine's top 100 professions. Sociology's high rating was assessed
through considering median annual earnings, growth of the profession, job
security, prestige and stress.
Persons with sociology degrees have recieved a well-rounded liberal
arts education. They have learned basics of research as well as how to
communicate effectively verbally and in writing. And, sociologists are
experts in understanding society and the interactions of individuals. This
training makes sociologists qualified candidates for jobs in business and
with the government.
Bachelor level sociologists have jobs:
•in business (human relations, sales, advertising and management)
•as market researchers
•as researchers for the government (census and other)
•in state and private employment agencies
•in other assistance agencies (gerontology, criminal justice, rehabilitation,
case management, children's services, family planning, substance abuse
programs, Red Cross, F.E.M.A.)
Sociology also provides excellent preparation for graduate school
in the fields of:
•law
•counseling (psychology, sociology, counselor education, M.S.W.)
•religion (seminary training for the ministry)
•business (M.B.A.)
•sociology (teaching or research)
The bonus is that sociology is personally interesting since we study
aspects of everyday life like the family, relationships between men
and women, work, and religion. |
