Academic Advising Center History
The establishment of an Academic Advising Center has been a long-time goal of Students, Faculty, Staff and Administration. There have been many visits, hearings, meetings and countless hours spent for this vision to be a success at Tarleton State. In the Fall of 2008, the dream of many will become reality.
This idea started in 2004 when initiatal brainstorming took place to establish centralized advising. By 2005 there was an established committee working on the task of researching the benefits and neccesity of an Academic Advising Center. After conversations and visits to other Universities with successful Academic Advsing Centers the committee established that there was a need at Tarleton State for a centralized advising center.
The Academic Advising Center Committee began meeting with Student Government and working more in depth with the task. At long last the committee established that we need a "Center that takes care of the student's needs and provides the best possible advisement experience for ALL students."
In 2006 the Student Government Association passed SGA Bill 06-06F establishing a student led online survey on an academic advising center. Later, SGA passed a resolution supporting a centralized advising center. Again, in 2007 SGA establish in a resolution for the Reorganization of the Lower Level of the Thompson Student Center that the Academic Advising Center is a priority and identified space for such a Center.
