Donald L. Zelman, Ph.D. 

Dr. Zelman is Professor of History and has been a member of the Tarleton faculty since 1969.  In 1989, he was appointed Director of General Studies and Testing to oversee the departments of Upward Bound, a federally funded program for first generation low-income high school students to promote post-secondary education, Student Support Services, and Teaching and Learning.

He graduated from the University of California at Santa Barbara in 1963.  In 1964, he received a M.A. from the University of Oregon, and later recieved his Ph.D. from The Ohio State University in 1969.

In recognition of his outstanding dedication to the teaching profession, Dr. Zelman was awarded the prestigous Piper Professor Award in 1977.

During his tenure, Dr. Zelman has served the University in various leadership roles including the current responsibilities of chairing the Convocation (Graduation) and Academic Advising committees.  He also serves on the State of Texas Committee for Core-Curriculum.

Dr. Zelman is responsible for starting the Speaker Symposium Series, a successful program that draws highly esteemed individuals to speak on the Tarleton campus.

For 1997-1998, Dr. Zelman was presented with the Student Life Award in appreciation for his dedication to Tarleton students.
