Fall Semester Training Events

a. Homecoming Week The TSU Texan Battalion will support all requested Homecoming week activities.. This special week will be capped off with the Battalion actively participating in the Homecoming games festivities for the parade and game on Saturday afternoon, with the Battalion providing a color guard and spirit rally team support during the game.

b. Ranger Challenge The TSU Texan Battalion will actively participate in the US Army Cadet Command Ranger Challenge competition, hosted by 12th Brigade, at Camp Bullis, Texas. The Texans will conduct an aggressive six-week training program that will be battle focused and physical oriented, to train selected teams to deploy to Camp Bullis to win. Teams will train and test on tasks of executing the Army Physical Fitness Test, First Aid, Hand Grenade throw and assault course, 10 KM Foot March, M16/M60 Assembly/Disassembly, Patrolling, and Orienteering. The TSU main campus will train, select, and field two teams, one being a female team.

c. Fall FTX The TSU Texan Battalion Fall FTX will be conducted at various locations (TBD). Cadets will be air lifted (if aircraft are available) from the school to the training area. Cadets will train on land navigation, Squad STX lanes of Squad Recon, Conduct an Ambush, Knock out a bunker, Movement to Contact, and Defend. All squads will be graded by OC Cadre, and cadets will rotate through various leadership positions, being evaluated using the blue card score system. End State’s achieved when all designated tasks and training objectives are trained and met to standard, cadets are returned back to TSU safely, and weapons and sensitive items are cleaned, accounted for, and turned into the supply sergeant.

d. Winter Commissioning Ceremony The TSU Texan Battalion will commission a small number of cadets in December, as Second Lieutenants in the US Army. Cadets will take the oath of office at their commencement ceremony and attend a Battalion hosted reception thereafter. The Winter Commissioning Ceremony will be the last event of the fall semester.

Spring Semester Training Events.

a. Ranger Club FTX. The TSU Ranger Club will conduct a 24 hour
FTX on a TBA date. Texan Rangers will train on the Ropes obstacle course, conduct an 8 mile foot march to Hunewell Ranch, and conduct a Reconnaissance Patrol, and Raid an objective.

b. Joint Spring FTX The TSU Texan Battalion conducts FTX Bold
Texan with UT Arlington and Texas Christian University, at Camp Woltors, Texas, to train MS III’s on Land Navigation, STX Lanes, and the FLRC, to prepare for Warrior Forge 2006.

c. JROTC Drill Meet The TSU Texan Battalion hosts its annual Junior ROTC Drill Meet competition, at Texan Stadium, on a Saturday (TBA), to promote the Texan Battalion, facilitate recruiting, and to foster improved relations between the Texan Battalion and neighboring JROTC programs.

d. Spring Dining Out The TSU Texan Battalion will conduct its annual Spring Dining Out on a date TBA toward the end of the spring semester. This event is a formal dinner with spouses, significant others, and invited guests. The Battalion will conduct its annual awards ceremony after the evening meal, being followed by provided entertainment.

e. Silver Taps Ceremony Silver Taps is a traditional ceremony at our University, honoring past alumni who have served our nation with distinction. The ceremony involves a wreath laying, a 21 gun ‘3 volley’ salute, Taps bugle call, and honoree recognitions. The Texan Battalion will support this traditional event with our color guard and Battalion and Cadet Battalion leadership. This event will be highly publicized through local media.

f. M16 Range and CCTT (30 April 2004). The TSU Texan Battalion will conduct an
M16 range for all MS III’s and a field trip to the Fort Hood Close Combat Tactical Terminal for volunteers during the spring.. MS III’s will train to qualify on their M16 during the range, to prepare them for Warrior Forge.

g. Texan Battalion Commissioning Ceremony The TSU Texan Battalion conducts its annual commissioning ceremony immediately following commencement at the Clyde H. Wells small auditorium to commission cadets as Second Lieutenants in the US Army. This event will conclude training events for the year.

 

Physical Training.

The TSU Texan Battalion Physical Training program for the spring semester will focus on preparing cadets to successfully pass the Army Physical Fitness Test, cardiovascular, strength and endurance training, circuit training, swimming to prepare for the Army Combat Water Survival Swim Test. PT will be conducted on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, from 0600-0700 hours. PT is mandatory for ALL MS III & IV Juniors and Senior’s, and scholarship/contracted cadets (MS I’s/II’s) freshmen and sophomores. PT will be planned, conducted, and executed by the Cadet Battalion chain of command, and will be graded by selected MS IV’s and Cadre members. The TSU Battalion will honor PT incentive waivers for all cadets passing the APFT with a 290 or above out of a possible 300, scoring a minimum of 90 points in each graded event. Cadets achieving a 290 or above will be awarded the Army Physical Fitness patch, authorized for wear on the PT uniform. PT will be conducted in the Army PT uniform. APFT’s and Swim Test dates are TBA.

Leadership Labs.

The TSU Texan Battalion will conduct this year’s Leadership Lab’s on Wednesday afternoon’s, from 3-5pm, during both fall and spring semesters. This year’s lab experiences will focus on hands on training, practical leadership experience, and employment of the US Army Infantry Squad and Platoon, in various situational training exercises, to prepare cadets for their semester FTX’s and for the National Advanced Leadership Camp. The Battalion’s cadre and Cadet Battalion MS IV’s will plan, resource, and conduct all labs, which will incorporate cadet evaluations and after action reviews.
