Rodeo Scholarships Daniel Parker Herd Scholarship: Daniel was born in Midland, Texas on February 3, 1976, the third child and second son of Tevis and Patty Herd. He was full of life and brought joy and laughter to his family and friends. He participated in High School Rodeo and graduated from Midland High School in 1995. He was a team roper and attended Tarleton State University beginning in September 1995, where he was on the Rodeo Team. Daniel died October 30, 1999. Two of his friends from Tarleton told his parents that Daniel was the most kind and generous person they had ever known and that he brought out the best in others. Daniel's favorite scripture is Psalm 118:24 "This in the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it." Daniel lived his life that way; may all who enjoy the benefit of his scholarship fund remember him and do the same.
Daniel Herd Jordan Freeman Memorial Scholarship: Jordan Freeman Memorial Scholarship-Various Amounts-Scholarships are awarded each year to the champion barrel racer, and champion header/heeler at the Scholarship Rodeo. Remaining funds are awarded to rodeo student athletes who have financial needs. Jordan Freeman died April 6, 2005; she was only 5 years old. She was the daughter of Todd and Sissy Freeman. She had an older sister, Jamie, and a twin brother, Jarett. In her short life she touched the lives of many. She was a member of the Pro Youth Rodeo Association, Central Texas Youth Rodeo Association, and the Meridian Horse Show Association. She was in Kindergarten at Glen Rose Elementary School. Jordan loved life and she loved to rodeo. She and her horse “Fat Daddy” were leading the novice barrels in the Pro Youth Rodeo Association. She was also the youngest person to ever make the top 15 in the 8 and under flag race at the PRYA Finals in 2004. She was only 4 years old most of the rodeo year and turned 5 during the last rodeo of the year, before the finals in September. She and Fat Daddy were a team and he could really turn the end barrel and “fly” home. Jordan loved to win, but her goal was to beat her brother. They had great fun competing against each other. She could not wait to grow up and team rope with her daddy and Jarett. We had many rodeos in our den…they were champions from the day they were born in our eyes. Her last day with us was filled with fun and happiness. She gathered eggs in the barn and had been picked to have a speaking part in a play at school. She had ridden Fat Daddy and played outside with Jarett in the dirt. She loved playing in the dirt! We are very proud to be a part of this memorial scholarship program and hope our rodeo angel, Jordan, will be able to live through the success if the Tarleton Rodeo Team and members. We hope all that read this passage will remember to live each day as it is the last and give God the glory for all success.
