The Texas A&M University System Guidelines

The A&M System Office of Communications recommends the following guidelines for use of the official A&M System seal on electronic and print publications and correspondence, including World Wide Web sites.

Use of the A&M System Seal
If an A&M System member chooses to use the A&M System seal on a published or electronic piece, it should also use its own logo or seal as well (if one exists). Care should be taken to ensure that the seals/logos do not compete graphically.

The A&M System seal should be printed using the PMS colors 877 (silver) and PMS 202 (maroon). It also can be printed in (one-color) maroon (PMS 202), metallic gold (PMS 871) or black, or reversed out of a color in white. The A&M System Office of Communications can provide one- and two-color seals as graphic files on disk or by e-mail upon request. E-mail request topricer@tarleton.edu.

The seal should not be altered in any way, but may be enlarged or reduced as needed.

Referencing the A&M System
When referencing the A&M System, use “The Texas A&M University System” on first reference (with a capital “T”) and “the A&M System” thereafter. In external publications, always use “the A&M System” on second reference and not just “system” alone, to eliminate confusion.

In internal publications, the word “system” can be used alone on second reference. In this instance, use lowercase “system” unless the word begins a sentence. Do not abbreviate as “TAMUS” or “TAMU System.” It is also correct to use the term “System Administration” when referring to the specific administrative offices of the system in College Station.

Incorrect: Texas A&M System, TAMUS, TAMU System.
Correct: The Texas A&M University System, the A&M System (after first reference).

Following is a “tagline” that can be used in whole or in part at the end of news releases or other documents:

The Texas A&M University System consists of nine universities, eight state agencies and a statewide health science center that serve 94,000 students and reach more than four million people each year through its service mission. Research projects under way by A&M System universities, agencies and health science center institutions total more than $425 million.

Board of Regents
Lower case “board” and “regents” only if used separately. See the Board of Regents' Web page (http://tamusbor.tamu.edu/) for correct name and title references. It is permissible to capitalize “Chancellor” and “Regent,” but otherwise use lower case for titles.

Examples: The board met at 10 a.m. Regent Gramm was there. Regent Lowry Mays is a member of the Committee on Finance. Chairman Nye lives in Dallas.

Members
Always use the institution's complete name on first reference and its official abbreviation on second reference. In general, when referencing the 18 system members collectively, use the term "members," not "parts" or "components."

Second references can also be the university (lowercase), the institution, the agency and the Health Science Center.
