Inclement Weather

 

1.  General

 

A.  Should weather or other conditions occur such that normal campus operations could be impeded, information will be provided to the appropriate local broadcast media, no later than 6:45 a.m.  Inclement weather announcements will be broadcast on the following:

 

1.  Radio and Television

2.  Posted on Tarleton’s Website

3.  Via email to Faculty, Staff and Students and via Code Purple

4.  Via the Tarleton Control Center 254-968-9265

                        5.  Code Purple via text message

 

For inclement weather conditions during normal working hours, the decision will be announced through regular administrative channels in addition to the five media noted above.

 

Faculty, staff, and students should assume normal operation of the University if media outlets make no announcements of campus closings or delays.  Employees and students should use good judgment about driving to and from the campus when traveling conditions are hazardous.

 

 

B.      Inclement weather decision responsibilities are designated as follows:

 

1.  The University President is responsible for determining whether classes in Stephenville will be cancelled or delayed and university offices closed or opening delayed.  If the Stephenville campus closes Waco, Fort Worth and the Southwest Metroplex campuses will automatically be closed.

 

 

                                    a. The news media will be requested to announce the following:

 

                                    “Tarleton State University – Stephenville, Waco, Fort Worth, and the

Southwest Metroplex is closed.”

 

b.      This information will be posted on www.tarleton.eduInformation Line message:  Tarleton State University - Stephenville, Waco, Fort Worth and the Southwest Metroplex will be closed on Day, Date, and if needed Time, due to inclement weather.

 

c.       Email:  The purpose of this email is to inform you that Tarleton State University – Stephenville, Waco, Fort Worth and the Southwest Metroplex will be closed on Day, Date, and if needed Time, due to inclement weather.  Email will only be used during normal operation hours.

 

 

2.  At Tarleton – Central Texas (T-CT), the Executive Director is responsible for determining whether classes will be cancelled or delayed and university offices closed or opening delayed. If classes are cancelled and university offices closed or delayed at T-CT:

 

a. The news media will be requested to announce the following:

 

                                    “Tarleton State University-Central Texas is closed.”

 

b.      This information will be posted on www.tarleton.edu/centraltexas

Information Line message:  Tarleton State University-Central Texas will be closed on Day, Date, and if needed Time, due to the inclement weather. 

 

c.        Email:  The purpose of this email is to inform you that Tarleton State University-Central Texas will be closed on Day, Date, and if needed Time, due to the inclement weather.  Email will only be used during operational hours.

 

d.      Code Purple will be sent out to TCT only.

 

3.  At Tarleton – Waco, the Assistant Vice President, Academic Affairs is responsible for determining whether classes will be cancelled or delayed and university offices closed or opening delayed.  If Stephenville campus closes Waco will also be closed.  If classes are cancelled and university offices closed or delayed at Waco:

 

a. The news media will be requested to announce the following:

 

                                    “Tarleton State University-Waco is closed.”

 

b.      This information will be posted on www.tarleton.edu/~wacoInformation Line message:  Tarleton State University-Waco will be closed on Day, Date, and if needed Time, due to the inclement weather.

 

c.        Email:  The purpose of this email is to inform you that Tarleton State University-Waco will be closed on Day, Date, and if needed Time, due to the inclement weather.  Email will only be used during operational hours.

d.      In the event of inclement weather in Waco, Tarleton classes held in Waco will follow closing/delays as determined by McLennan Community College.

 

e.       Code Purple will be sent out for Waco only.

 

 

4.  At Tarleton – Fort Worth and the Southwest Metroplex, the Assistant Vice President, Academic Affairs is responsible for determining whether classes will be cancelled or delayed and university offices closed or opening delayed. If Stephenville campus closes Fort Worth and the Southwest Metroplex will also be closed.  If classes are cancelled and university offices closed or delayed at Fort Worth and the Southwest Metroplex:

 

a. The news media will be requested to announce the following:

 

“Tarleton State University- Fort Worth and the Southwest Metroplex will be closed.”

 

b.      This information will be posted on www.tarleton.edu/~fortworth  Information Line message:  Tarleton State University- Fort Worth and the Southwest Metroplex will be closed on  Day, Date, and if needed Time, due to the inclement weather. 

 

c.        Email:  The purpose of this email is to inform you that Tarleton State University- Fort Worth and the Southwest Metroplex will be closed on Day, Date, and if needed Time, due to the inclement weather. Email will only be used during operational hours.

  1. If a decision is made to close the University, certain critical areas shall be required to continue operations.  These areas are:

 

a.       University Police – All employees report for regular shift.

b.      Physical Plant – Employees designated by the Director.

c.       Housing – Employees designated by the Director.

d.      Barry B. Thompson Student Center – Employees designated by the Director.

e.       Food Services – Employees designated by the Director.

f.       Any other areas deemed critical by an appropriate administrative office.
