Inclement Weather

I. Executive Order.

Stephenville Campus
        In the event that weather or other conditions are such that normal campus operations could be
impeded, the Office of the President is responsible for determining whether classes will be cancelled and university offices will be closed.  Should this occur at night, such information will be provided to the local broadcast media by the President’s office, normally no later than 6:45 a.m.  Inclement weather announcements will be broadcast on radio and television and posted on Tarleton’s website: www.tarleton.edu.  The news media will be requested to announce the following:

        “Tarleton State University is closed.  Classes have been cancelled.”

Should this decision occur during normal working hours, the decision will be announced through regular administrative channels in addition to announcements by radio and television stations and posting on the website.

Each employee and student should use common sense and good judgment about driving to and from the campus when traveling conditions are hazardous.

Killeen Campus
In the event that weather or other conditions are such that normal campus operations could be impeded, the Executive Director is responsible for determining whether classes will be cancelled and University System Center offices will be closed.  Should this occur at night, such information will be provided to the local broadcast media by the Executive Director’s office, normally no later than 6:45 a.m. Inclement weather announcements will be broadcast on radio and television and posted on T-CT’s website: www.tarleton.edu/centraltexas.  The news media will be requested to announce the following:
    
        “Tarleton University System Center-Central Texas is closed.  Classes have been cancelled.”

Should this decision occur during normal working hours, the decision will be announced through regular administrative channels in addition to announcements by radio and televisions stations and posting on the website.

Each employee and student should use common sense and good judgment about driving to and from the campus when traveling conditions are hazardous.

II.    Procedure

1.  The authorized news media outlets will announce approved campus closings.  Faculty, staff,
     and students should assume normal operation of the University or University System Center if media
     outlets make no announcements of campus closings.    
2.    If a decision is made to close the University, certain critical areas shall be required to continue operations.  These areas are:

a.    University Police – All employees report for regular shift.
b.    Physical Plant – Employees designated by the Director.
c.    Housing - Employees designated by the Director.
d.    Student Development Center – Employees designated by the Director.
e.    Food Service - Employees designated by the Director.
f.    Any other areas deemed critical by an appropriate administrative officer.


3.    For additional reference, emergency operation plans and procedures have been developed for the following offices and operations.

Tarleton Crisis Management Team
University Police Department
University Physical Plant Department
University Housing
Central Texas College Police Department
Tarleton-Central Texas Crisis Management Team   


    4.  A list of radio and television stations will be provided each fall.
