PICOS -- Program to Increase College Opportunities and Successes -- Tarleton State University

Engineering Technology

While engineering programs, such as those offered at Tarleton, provide the research and theoretical training necessary for planning, designing, and creating new products, engineering technology programs focus on application and practice and emphasize laboratory experience. Engineering technologists work with engineers as part of an engineering team and help create and supervise the processes for manufacturing products by translating the concepts, research, and specifications of engineers into the actual production of manufactured goods at the lowest possible cost. Engineering technologists direct and coordinate manufacturing and construction processes in industrial plants and at construction sites. They work in areas such as project management, automated testing, product improvement, planning, production methods, fabrication, assembly, materials handling, scheduling, and quality assurance.

The engineering technology program at Tarleton has developed an outstanding relationship with local and area industries that allows faculty and students to work with company engineers on design projects provided by the companies. The program includes specialized technical courses that emphasize rational thinking and application of scientific principles to find practical solutions to technical problems, as well as courses in mathematics and science that support the technical courses. If you like knowing why and how things work and applying that knowledge to solve real-life problems, engineering technology may be the career for you.
