Chemistry
As a chemistry major at Tarleton the student benefits from having high accessibility to the faculty in small classrooms. The chemistry degree is very flexible allowing the student to tailor his/her course work to a wide variety of fields such as the health sciences (i.e. pre-med, pre-dent, pre-pharmacy), teaching, business, and professional tracks (mainly geared toward industry or advanced graduate studies in the field) among others.
The chemistry major will also have the opportunity to work one-on-one with faculty doing research at our outstanding facilities, and participating in presenting results at well renowned chemistry conferences throughout the nation.
Major chemical instrumentation currently available in the department includes the following:
- UV-visible Spectroscopy - single and double beam instruments
- Infrared Spectroscopy - dispersive and FTIR instruments
- Gas Chromatography
- Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectroscopy
- High Performance Liquid Chromatography
- Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy
- Inductively Coupled Plasma Spectroscopy
- Fourier Transform Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy
- Scanning Electron Microscopy
In addition a large number of standard instruments are also available for use in teaching and research by students and faculty.
You will enjoy Tarleton's spacious classrooms, well-equipped laboratories, modern research instrumentation, and electronically advanced library facilities.
