PICOS -- Program to Increase College Opportunities and Successes -- Tarleton State University

What is PICOS?

PICOS is a scholarship and mentorship program intended to break down common barriers to higher education.

Candidates for PICOS participation must be

  • financially needy,
  • first generation college,
  • Hispanic high school seniors with Science, Technology, Engineering, and/or Mathematics (STEM) interest and aptitude.

Participants will receive financial aid and support based on Tarleton’s existing student success initiatives and faculty and peer mentoring, as well as industry role models, exposure to STEM careers, and career and graduate placement assistance.

The PICOS effort is focused on public schools in the twelve rural counties surrounding Tarleton:

  • Brown
  • Comanche
  • Eastland
  • Ellis
  • Erath
  • Hamilton
  • Hood
  • Palo Pinto
  • Somervell
  • Wise
