GRANTS/FELLOWSHIPS/SCHOLARSHIPS
A list of scholarships, internship, fellowships
AWRA has one graduate scholarship in the field of water resources. One $2,000
scholarship will also be awarded to a full-time graduate student enrolled
in a program relating to water resources.
The graduate scholarship will be awarded to the student most qualified
by academic and/or research performance. Measures of academic performance
include the cumulative grade point average, relevance of the student’s
curriculum to water resources, and leadership in extracurricular activities
related to water resources. In addition, the quality of the student’s
research and its relevance to water resources will be ascertained. Scholarship
recipients will be selected by the AWRA Student Activities Committee and
announced during the summer. For more information:
http://www.awra.org/student/herbert.html The Texas Water Resources Institute has an annual call for research proposals. The deaadline is typically in early January. This program, which is funded by the US Geological Survey through the National Institutes for Water Research, is aimed at funding the water resources-related research of graduate students at universities throughout Texas. TWRI anticipates funding at least 10 graduate research enhancement grants of up to $5,000 in the area of water resources. In 2001 TWRI funded 10 projects out of 34 applications. Projects were funded at 7 universities. Applications from all universities doing water resources-related research in Texas are encouraged. The intent of this competitive grants program is to strengthen graduate student research and education programs in water resources at universities throughout Texas. In addition, the program provides an opportunity for graduate students to prepare, submit, and implement a competitive grant, often for the first time. Proposed research can deal with a wide range of topics related to water resources. Some of these subjects include conservation and management of water resources; surface water, wastewater, irrigation, drinking water, watersheds, water policy issues, studies involving geographic information systems and computer modeling, and responses of aquatic plants or animals to water quantity or quality. Proposals on other water related concerns will also be considered. Proposals should strengthen the research project of a graduate student in a Texas university. Proposals should be developed by the graduate student applicant in collaboration with their faculty advisor. A maximum of $5,000 may be requested, with a maximum of $2,500 used to offset tuition and fees that are not otherwise waived by the university. Grant funds may also be used for travel, equipment, lab materials, supplies, analytical devices or services, or other items that improve the quality of the student's research program. IMPORTANT NOTE-Proposals are limited to three pages of text. The citations and references should be included within this 3-page limit. A one-page budget is required for each project. A Vita for the student and each of the faculty involved may also be attached, but each CV must be only one page.
National Water Research Institute awards fellowships of up to $10,000 a year per student to support master's or doctoral graduate research related to water resources. The research MUST pertain to NWRI's mission statement, which is to create new sources of water through research and technology and to protect the freshwater and marine environments.http://www.nwri-usa.org/asp/home.asp?main=m1&sub=s0&id=1&display=N
NNEMS is a comprehensive fellowship program managed by EPA's Office of Environmental
Education. The purpose of the NNEMS Program is to provide students with
practical research opportunities and experiences. Each participating headquarters
or regional office develops and sponsors projects for student research.
The projects are narrow in scope to allow the student to complete the
research by working full-time during the summer and/or part-time during
the school year. Research fellowships are available in Environmental Policy,
Regulation, and Law; Environmental Management and Administration; Environmental
Science; Public Relations and Communications; and Computer Programming
and Development. NNEMS fellows receive a stipend at a level determined
by the student’s level of education and the duration of the research
project. Fellowships are offered to undergraduate and graduate students.
Complete application information can be obtained in the Career Service
Center (or equivalent) of participating universities. No application materials
will be sent directly to students. The application deadline is in December
of each year for all projects in the coming year. Complete program information
and application materials can be obtained from the NNEMS website: http://www.epa.gov/enviroed/NNEMS/ The
Society of Wetland Scientists has research grants for any student
conducting undergraduate or graduate-level research in wetland science
at an accredited college or university. Grants are intended to aid, but not to provide sole support of, student research. Because the total amount of funding requested will likely exceed available funds, proposals will be evaluated on a competitive basis. No predetermined funding limit has been set; however, it is expected that the maximum award will not exceed US $ 1,500.00 . http://www.sws.org/studentgrants/general_info.html National
