The department of Chemistry and Geosciences, home of the Environmental Science Program, is located in the Science Building, which houses state-of-the-art teaching and research labs.

Tarleton has a fine collection of analytical equipment including a GC-mass spectrometer, an FT-IR spectrometer, an FT-NMR spectrometer, several chromatographs, atomic absorption and UV-visible spectrometers. In addition, we have a variety of water-quality testing equipment for field use.

There is a well-equipped hydrology and soils lab with a flume, a rain simulator, numerous hydraulic benches, and other fluid devices

There is a computer lab with a variety of current software for word processing, spreadsheet, database development, drawing and graphics, and many specialized packages for GIS, groundwater modeling, aquifer testing, and log analysis.

Faculty and graduate students have have access to research labs stocked with equipment pertinent to their particular area of interest.


There are library facilities on the TSU campus and there are many additional libraries within 1-2 hours travel, including those of University of Texas at Arlington, Baylor University, Texas Christian University, and the U.S. EPA Regional Headquarters.


The Texas Institute for Applied Environmental Research
on the Tarleton campus plays a national leadership role in environmental issues related to water quality and provides additional support for research activities.

The Texas A&M Stephenville Research and Extension Center is located a few miles from campus and also provides further research support and their facilities augment those at Tarleton.

A 600-acre university farm and the 1,200-acre Hunewell Ranch expand our educational opportunities. Several classes utilize these facilities for outdoor training exercises.
