Parent Relations - Division of Student Life - Tarleton State University

Tarleton State University has opened a new office   in the Division of Student Life, the Office of   Parent Relations. With this new office comes a new position, Parent Relations Coordinator, and my name is Lathes Towns. I’m excited about having the opportunity to launch a new program that will aid parents in the navigation of our university, and assisting them as they guide their student(s) toward becoming successful leaders of tomorrow.

It is important to me that parents have a place to come and find the answers needed to help their student accomplish their goals.  As a graduate of Tarleton State University, I firmly believe that Tarleton not only offers quality education, but a unique tradition of excellence on campus that is often absent from other universities.

Here is a little information about me. I received both my Bachelors and Masters from Tarleton State University in Health and Physical Education. My wonderful husband, Bill, and I have lived in this area for over 10 years. Bill is a guidance counselor for the Dublin Independent School District. We have two beautiful daughters Chelsey and Tara. Chelsey is a junior at Texas A & M University in College Station, Texas. Tara graduated from Dublin High School this May and will begin her freshman year at Tarleton in the fall.

Why did I choose to accept this position? I was a stay-at-home mom for twenty plus years, and was, and am still, very involved in my daughters’ educational and extracurricular activities. Also, my husband, Bill, would often send high school students and their parents to me looking for assistance with paperwork pertaining to college. I enjoyed it a great deal.  When we sent my eldest daughter off to college the parents’ program at Texas A&M University helped me a great deal in our transition. The Parent Relations Office at Tarleton State is a perfect fit for me because I am also in the process of preparing, sending, and finally, releasing my two children to further their education as well as their independence. I understand where parents are coming from, the answers they are looking for, and the challenges they face because I ask those same questions and face those same challenges in my personal life.

The Parent Relations Office is here to answer and address any and all of your questions and concerns, offer resources to ease the adjustment to this new chapter in both you and your student’s life, and provide a helping hand to negotiate the university system from FERPA to Financial Aid.

I’m looking forward to partnering with you throughout your student’s collegiate experience.  Please don’t hesitate to call my office (254) 968-0789.
