Frequently Asked Questions Q. Does being in a Greek organization take up a lot of time? A. Being an active member of any organization takes time. Greek life can offer its members a countless number of experiences. Some students choose to become more involved in chapter life than others. Some students choose to use their Greek membership as a means by which to get involved. A. Unfortunately, movies and shows like these cast a negative stereotype on Greek organizations. Those shows portray Greeks as partiers and poor scholars who are irresponsible and abusive. At Tarleton State University we take the utmost pride in the fact that our Women’s fraternities take every effort to erase those stereotypes. We require women going through recruitment to achieve a cumulative GPA of at least 2.5. We are very involved in the community as well. Q. What is alcohol use like in Greek life? A. Alcohol abuse is inconsistent with Greek ideals. All fraternities and sororities are expected to uphold state, county and city laws, as well as university policies regarding the consumption of alcohol. Chapters are not allowed to purchase alcohol for their members. Students who choose not to drink will know that it is OK and are able to feel comfortable with their decision. The Tarleton State University community takes any alcohol abuse of its members very seriously.
