Admission to the Nursing Program
and Academic Advising

Admission Information
Admission application and admission to the nursing program is separate from and in addition to application and admission to the University. You must complete the application process to Tarleton before applying to the nursing program.

When to apply to the nursing program depends on your entry category.  If you are a generic student, you should wait until you are enrolled in NUR 120 Survey of Nursing Science before completing an official application to the program.  However, students entering NUR 120 must complete the “Interest in Survey Form” by the entry deadline (March 1 for Fall and October 1 for Spring). LVNs, RNs, and Transfer Nursing Students should complete a Transition Entry Application by the entry deadline of March 1 for Fall.

Advising
Nursing faculty will serve as your academic advisor if you choose nursing as your major at Tarleton State University. The Department of Nursing will classify you as a pre-admission student until you have been officially admitted to the nursing program.  Pre-admission students are advised through our Open Advising process.  Nursing students are assigned an advisor from the nursing faculty. The advisor continues to advise the student throughout the program.

As a pre-admission student, you should attend one of the Open Advising sessions scheduled throughout the year.  No appointment is necessary.  Students are seen on a first come, first serve basis.  We recommend that you attend one of the open advising sessions early in your academic career so that you are aware of program prerequisites and application deadlines.  Contact the Nursing Office for Open Advising dates and times at 254-968-9139 or ackermann@tarleton.edu.  Department of Nursing faculty also participate in the University sponsored Freshman and Transfer Student Orientation sessions.
