Student in the Spotlight: Matthew Lovelace
Most students will spend their summers working in their hometown, takeing summer classes, or just relaxing. However, some students in the Fine Arts building have fournd worthwhile alternatives. One of those students is music major Matt Lovelace.
Matt applied for and was accepted to the Conductors Retreat in Medomak, Maine, where he will spend three weeks of intensive work on conducting, score, study, aural skills, and physical expression and movement. Matt has been interested in conducting since high school. "I served as a drum major when I was in high school and really liked the feeling of being in front of an ensemble. My curiousity has grown from there." When asked how he will benefit from the Conductors Retreat, Matt replied, "I will have the opportunity to study under a teacher who has and continues to conduct professional ensembles. Maestro Kiesler is a well-known pedagogue who can really help steer me in the direction that I want to go."
