Chamber Music
Chamber Ensembles - These ensembles are performing organizations that serve as laboratories for learning literature, rehearsal techniques, performance, and theoretical application. The director of the ensemble will give you a handbook outlining the requirements of each group. Participation is open to any member of the Texan Band. The chamber ensembles typically include: Brass Quintet, Woodwind Quintet, Trombone Choir, Percussion Ensemble, and various smaller groups.
Jazz Ensembles
The award- winning TSU Jazz Ensemble is a standard "big band" of 20 musicians and tours extensively. The Jazz Ensemble is highly competitive, and membership is by audition only. Contact Greg Ball for more information.

Marching Band
Texan Marching Band - ''The Sound and The Fury of Tarleton" is the most visible of all Tarleton musical ensembles. With a membership of over 100 students, the Texan Band utilizes the "corps-style" approach, plus occasional military and show band drills for its three different half-time themes each year. The Texan Band rehearses three days per week, and performs at six to seven football games. Recent half-time performance themes have included Classic Rock, James Bond, Western, Classical Composers, and Baseball.

Symphonic Band
Symphonic Bands - The University Wind Symphony is the premier instrumental ensemble of the program, with a flexible number of approximately forty-five musicians. Membership is by audition only. Any member of the Texan Band may audition, regardless of major. The Concert Band is a larger group of fifty to sixty musicians, and is open to all students.
Tarleton State Strings
The Tarleton State Strings was recently re-unveiled after a nearly sixty year hiatus! This string ensemble is open to all string players (violins, violas, cellos, and basses). Membership is open to community members and all students, regardless of major. No university credit is given for the Tarleton State Strings. Repertoire consists of the standard string literature from the Baroque to the present day. Rehearsals are on Tuesday evenings from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
