Our role

The Tarleton State University Office of Media Relations strives to enhance the university’s visibility through media relations, newsletters, feature stories, community outreach and various marketing-oriented tasks. Please help us by noticing the following points:

  • Our office follows the Associated Press writing style, and it is preferable that any information presented to the media be written in the AP format.
  • At least 10 working days notice prior to the scheduled activity or event is needed for adequate local media coverage. If the news item could generate media coverage outside the local area, the advance notice needed for optimal exposure possibilities is at least five months or more prior to the event.
  • Please keep in mind that control is with the newspaper editor, not the university. Editors dictate when and if the submitted information will be printed.

Photography services

As media relations representatives for the university, we concentrate our photographic services on media-related events.

  • Our photo services are for the purpose of providing photographic materials to support news releases and for use in official university publications.
  • We ask that any university faculty or staff needing photographs for news or publication purposes request photographic service at least 72 hours in advance of the occasion for which photographic service is required. Our schedule consists of deadlines, and if we are working on deadline, it is very difficult to alter our schedule at the last minute.
  • Our office will help you determine if any photo you would like to submit for publication is suitable. Certain quality levels and size are required for clear presentation in publications.
  • The media relations office is not responsible for photographic assignments that are for personal use of faculty and staff members, including parties such as retirement parties and portraits used for non-media related events or sports events.
  • Due to the many technological requirements involved with photography, our office may not be able to adequately meet your particular needs due to limits with our equipment. In such cases, we will gladly assist you in finding a suitable photographer who can meet those needs.
