STEPHENVILLE, TEXAS—Tarleton President Dr. F. Dominic Dottavio, announced Thursday that Dr. Koy Floyd will return to serve as Interim Vice President for Institutional Advancement and will serve in that capacity until a national search is conducted and a replacement is hired. Floyd previously held that position for 15 years before assuming an academic appointment as Research Professor in Tarleton’s Department of Educational Leadership and Policy Studies doctoral program.

“Being new to Tarleton, I am very fortunate to have Dr. Floyd rejoin the leadership team,” said Dottavio. “His breadth of experience in donor, media and alumni relations combined with his understanding of the history and traditions at Tarleton are remarkable assets. We have met several times and it is clear that he will bring a high level of energy and enthusiasm to our institutional advancement activities.”

Floyd became the university’s first vice president for institutional advancement in 1992. As principal author and director of Tarleton’s Culture of Excellence Capital Campaign, he was responsible for organizing, coordinating and managing all activities of the campaign. The $40 million, six-year campaign was completed with more than $42.9 million raised. In April 2000, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS) visiting team awarded a commendation for excellence in fund raising.

Prior to joining Tarleton, Floyd served as research professor, department chairman, and director of public information at the University of Tulsa over a period of 13 years. He also served as assistant vice president for university relations at the University of Oklahoma for three years, as executive assistant to the president at Austin Peay State University in Tennessee for a year, and as associate professor of Educational Administration and department chairman for three years at James Madison University in Virginia.

A graduate of East Central University in Ada, Okla., and the University of New Mexico, Floyd began his administrative career as superintendent of the Moriarty, N.M., public schools. He has authored and/or edited more than 40 articles and books and has been a featured speaker and presenter at a number of state, regional and national conferences. His wife, Kay, taught in Tarleton’s Department of Curriculum and Instruction for 14 years prior to retiring in 2006.
