Tarleton offers several web-based tools for students:

The following sections

WEBMAIL: Free University-Provided Email Service
Tarleton students and employees have free University-provided email service, but must activate the accounts by claiming their network usernames and passwords. These usernames and passwords are also needed to use campus computers and to access Tarleton libraries' databases from off-campus sites.

WebMail is used by

empty space• the University & campus organizations to contact students and employees,
empty space• students and employees for personal & course-related e-mail, and

WEBCT: Online Course Tool
WebCT is primarily used in the online classes at Tarleton State University and requires a login username and a password. Access to WebCT course materials is restricted to students currently registered for the class they are trying to access through WebCT.

Usernames are set to be your Tarleton network username (the same one used for WebMail). Your initial password is "Capital "K" and the first 7 digits of your social security number. You need to change your password after you log on the first time.

Each instructor determines the material included in the online materials. Therefore, online course materials vary based on class needs and instructor preferences. Typically, instructors offer the following materials through WebCT:
empty space• course materials (syllabus, notes, lessons, assignments, etc.)
empty space• communication tools (e-mail, chat, and discussion boards)
empty space• evaluation tools (quizzes, tests, and exercises)
empty space• study materials (notes, research resources, relevant URLs, bibliographies, etc.)

WEBBOARD: Online Message Board
WebBoard is used in several classes at Tarleton and gives the instructor and students in a class opportunities to
empty space• post questions, ideas, and discussions,
empty space• extend classroom discussion, and
empty space• have for more interaction.

The instructor for a course using WebBoard will give registered students usage instructions and the URL for the class's WebBoard. URLs are different for each class's WebBoard, and only students enrolled in the course and the instructor can participate on a class's WebBoard. Guests are usually allowed to read, but not post to WebBoard.

WebBoard lets a class's instructor and students
empty space• post threaded discussions,
empty space• hold online chat sessions,
empty space• e-mail other participants,
empty space• add graphics and Internet links to messages, and
empty space• attach files to postings.

The following links connect to
empty space• general instructions for using WebBoard and
empty space• a discussion of WebBoard functions

However, the instructor requiring WebBoard for a class is probably the best source for instructions about accessing and using WebBoard for that class.
