Library Instruction
The Reference Department offers course-integrated library instruction sessions that focus on research skills needed for academic assignments:
- general library skills and navigation the physical library
- using the library's catalog and databases to locate case studies, literary criticism, research articles, etc.
- searching for web sources
- locating articles using citations
- finding primary sources
- evaluating and citing sources
- other topics as requested
Library instruction sessions should be scheduled early to ensure library staff availability. A week or more in advance is ideal.
Sessions are usually scheduled between 8 am and 5 pm, but arrangements can be made for evening sessions. The sessions can take lecture and/or hands-on format and can be held in the library, classrooms, or computer labs, as well as off-campus. As the instructor, you decide the length, type, and location of the session(s).
When requesting a session, please consider the following:
- If your library session will be held in a library instructional areas, library staff will work with you to choose the best area based on class size and desired mode of instruction.
- If your session will be held in a classroom, make sure the room is adequately wired for connecting to the web and for setting up a computer and projector.
- If your session will be held in a campus computer lab, reserve that lab for your class.
