Enriching Lives

Doesn’t the phrase quality of life have a special meaning for us all? Whenever we are asked to support a worthwhile cause, a primary factor in our own decision whether or not to contribute to the organization requesting help involves the question of how much it enriches the quality of life in our community.

Recently, Tarleton State University’s Dora Lee Langdon Cultural & Educational Center here in Granbury requested a financial contribution and asked us as well to consider serving as this year’s co-chairs for its first Annual Campaign. Before making our decision, we considered the Langdon Center’s broad range of activities and programs and their impact on this community. These are just a few of the things that came to our minds:

• Writing Down the Brazos, the annual regional conference on writing and publishing (recently cited in “Texas Highways” magazine);

• The visual arts programs which have stimulated activity in the art community and expanded the annual Rio Brazos Art Exhibition into a nationally recognized show;

• Langdon Weekend, an annual state-wide conference held in the fall which brings together writers of fiction, non-fiction and poetry as well as movie directors and visual artists. This symposium and its corresponding anthology, “The Langdon Review of the Arts in Texas,” showcases participants’ work, with its influence reaching well beyond our community;

• Outstanding performances by professional musicians representing larger organizations such as the Piatigorsky Foundation, Columbus (OH) Symphony, and the Dallas Symphony;

• Student music lessons and recitals; and adult continuing educational programs;

• Public concerts and markets held outdoors on Langdon Center’s beautiful grounds.

It was an easy decision for us to decide that the Langdon Center merits our full support. And we feel so strongly about the positive impact the Center has on the quality of life in our community that we have chosen to contribute time as well as financial assistance to the Center’s current programs and to its future growth.

We ask that you join with us by making a gift to Tarleton State University’s Dora Lee Langdon Cultural & Educational Center. We believe that after you consider all of the benefits the Center provides to the quality of life in our community you will agree that the Langdon Center is worthy of your support.

A brochure describing more of the Langdon Center’s programs is enclosed, showing suggested giving options and benefits, together with a return envelope for your convenience. Please make your gift as generous as possible so that the fine activities and programs offered by the Center can continue.

If you would like to find out more about the Langdon Center, explore its website at: www.tarleton.edu/langdoncenter. Or, you may contact Janice Horak, Director of the Langdon Center at 817.279.1164, or via email at langdoncenter@sbcglobal.net
