Eat

I know I need healthy food- and plenty of it.  I will eat well.  And that includes dessert, because moderation, not deprivation, is the route to being healthy and happy.

You are what you eat!  Take care of yourself from the inside out by making healthy choices throughout the day!

Don’t forget about water!

A word on water:  The recommended daily intake of water is half of your body weight in ounces. Your minimum intake should be 48 ounces. Only one point is allowed per day, if and only if you reach six, 8 oz. servings- if you drink more than that, GREAT, you're on your way to great health! You will still receive just one point.

The USDA Food Guide Pyramid recommends 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables every day.  And getting 5 to 9 servings is easier than you may think!

A serving size is:

  • One medium size fruit (about the size of your fist)
  • ½ cup raw, cooked, frozen or canned fruits (in 100% fruit juice) or vegetables (same as one cupped hand)
  • ¾ cup (6 oz.) 100% fruit or vegetable juice
  • ½ cup cooked, canned or frozen legumes (beans and peas)
  • 1 cup raw, leafy vegetables (same as two cupped hands)
  • ¼ cup dried fruit
  • A recommended serving of whole grains would be 1 slice of bread or 1/2 cup of rice or pasta.
