Provost's Welcome:
It is a real pleasure to see this inaugural student research journal emerge at Tarleton. Over the past few years, the stimulation of formal research activity at the undergraduate level has increasingly been linked to greater levels of student responsibility, interest and academic engagement and hence, increased learning. State and national conferences are now emerging that provide undergraduate students and their faculty sponsors opportunities to share the results of their studies, gain further ideas and support for their research and develop professional networks for both established faculty scholars and emerging student scholars. Much of this work is done under the auspices of a national organization, C.U.R. (Council on Undergraduate Research), of which Tarleton State University is a member. I must also credit the work of the Tarleton chapter of Sigma Xi Scientific Research Society, in encouraging the undergraduate research movement on our campus. In sum, it is truly exciting to see Tarleton faculty and students engage this movement and to anticipate the numerous recognitions and professional benefits they will no doubt accrue in doing so.
