Biographical Information

Dr. Michael Hibbs is an Associate Professor in Physics & Engineering at Tarleton State University. In the past he has taught at Tarrant County College, TCU, Stephen F. Austin State University, Nolan High School, and has been a Lecturer at the Noble Planetarium, Museum of Science and History. Michael has routinely given public astronomy lectures and observation sessions at Fossil Rim, Lake Mineral Wells State Park, Cleburne State Park and Meridian State Park. For this work he has received special recognition from the Texas State Parks and Wildlife Department. Michael is also the publisher of the North Texas Skywatch website. North Texas Skywatch is an online resource for the residents of North Central Texas that provides information about local astronomical events, plus interesting and educational articles about astronomy and the universe around us.

Before joining Tarleton State University, Michael worked for 13 years at General Dynamics/ Lockheed Martin with responsibilities including: Senior Engineering Specialist (Chief) of technology integration, F-22 lead for composite fatigue & fracture and materials & processes groups; Corporate Representative to University Composite Research Consortia and Corporate Composite Working Group.

Michael earned a Ph.D. in Interdisciplinary Engineering (Mechanics & Materials) at Texas A&M University (1988), a M.S. in Physics/Astronomy from Stephen F. Austin State University (1980), and a B.S. in Physics from University of Texas at Arlington (1977).

Michael's hobbies (when he's not teaching or stargazing) include sailing and travel.
