The
W. K. Gordon Center for Industrial History of Texas is dedicated
to the preservation of the history of Thurber and industrial
development in Texas and the American Southwest. Tarleton
State University Foundation, Inc. built and furnished the
Center, with support and assistance from Mrs. W.K. Gordon,
Jr., Erath County, and the Texas Department of Transportation.
The Center represents the culmination of a long and happy
relationship between the University and the town of Thurber,
Texas.
The focus of
the permanent exhibits in the W.K. Gordon Center is the development
of the coal, brick, and petroleum industries in the Thurber
area. A special collections library and research area permits
serious examination of life in Thurber and in other areas
of industrial development in Texas and the Southwest. Please
keep in mind that we are actively seeking materials pertaining
to the economic, political, and social history of Thurber
and other centers of industrial development. These manuscripts,
photographs, artifacts, and oral histories provide a study
collection for scholarly research and documents life in Thurber.
Through its Internet presence, the Center hopes to share the
history of the Thurber community with a wider audience.
