Board of Directors Meeting

October 17, 2000

The meeting was called to order by President, Frank Ewell, at 2:05pm.

No treasures report since Mike was not present.

BUSINESS DISCUSSED:

Presidents club Letter-- Frank will develop a generic letter to be sent to the members of the presidents club.   Plan to have letter at the November Meeting.

Treasures Report—Linda Land will contact Mike and bring information to the meeting on the treasures report.  Also plan to have Mike send the report direct to Frank. 

Dinner in the Stacks—grossed $676.00, deposited to account.  49 people attended and Frank did a great job at introductions.

Membership Committee—Mary Ann agreed to continue as Chairperson of the Membership committee.   Decided that Pat will be the person from the board to act as Co-chairperson.

Fact Sheet on Library functions--Agreed to a generic fact sheet to be developed and sent to various groups or individuals.  Will accomplish the following:

          *Clear up lack of understanding of the library functions.

          *Application for membership will be part of the fact sheet.

Frank will continue working on the fact sheet.

Internet Library capability—Discussed the library features that the friends can access.  The SIS student information system is not available.  Friends can access the DRA Library database and use the interlibrary loan request.  In the future library will allow patrons to renew a book loan.

Linda will investigate and write up a description sheet on all databases the Friends will be entitled to use.  Have ready for next meeting.

Lunch Lessons—Are free to all Friends.  Information on date/time is on the home page.   Pat will have Tracy to update info on the homepage.

Book Sale—ready for Sat, November 11.   Will move books on Tuesday, Nov 7 into room.  Plan to serve Coffee again, everyone bring goodies to eat.  The hours will be 9:00am to 4:00pm, helpers need to be here at 8:30am.

Everyone needs to research Home Schooler organizations.

Life Term Members—Plaque for new members should be complete by end of week.  Try to get newspaper to come and record the event.  Pat will try to have all life-term members present.

Coffee Bar—Ken indicated still being worked.  Should take place within the foreseeable future.   Board needs to plan what we want to put on the coffee cups that are for sale.

Dinner in the Stacks—For the spring dinner, Ken talked to Guy Logsden from Oklahoma.  He sings plus gives humorous talk.  He is historian for western music movement.  Also work for the Smithsonian Institute. 

Possible date for the next dinner is Saturday, April 21, 2001. 

Next board meeting, Tuesday, November 21 at 2:00pm room 221.
