OFFICER REPORTS

COMMITTEE REPORTS

President Ann Albrecht handed out a rough draft of the next newsletter. Additions and changes were made.

Mike Moser, treasurer, was absent. Mary Ann Westbrook agreed to call Mike to find out the total collected from the book sale.

Frank Ewell reported that his committee was ready to put into action the plans for the next bake sale in May.

Glenda Stone reported that Dr. C. Richard King agreed to be the speaker for the April 17, 1999 Dinner in the Stacks. Pat Cockerell stated that the dinner would be a fun event with prizes awarded.

OLD BUSINESS

President Ann Albrecht handed out a preliminary Friends of the Library web page designed by Dennis Jones for review. Everyone liked it. Dennis needs disks of the Constitution and By-laws and the Minutes so that he can put them on the Web. Mary Ann Westbrook agreed to write up the membership benefits to also be included on the Web page.

The spring meeting dates were changed to February 8, March 8, and April 12, all at 3:30 p.m. in the Dick Smith Library, Room 221. The changes were made due to the third Monday falling during Spring Break and other conflicts.

The annual membership meeting committee reported that it has not met Linda Land brought A & M Friends brochures to show. Ann Albrecht brought an ad from the Fort Worth Star-Telegram about the Fort Worth Public Library Friend’s group. Mrs. Cleveland suggested that the Stephenville Empire-Tribune reporter Michelle Waters Hale might be a good person to write articles about the Friends for the local paper. Ann Albrecht suggested that Michelle Waters Hale be invited to the next dinner and comp her two tickets.

President Ann Albrecht asked the status of the display cases that were ordered. Pat Cockerell reported that they just recently got ordered. Because the Friend’s account is through the university, the university rules must apply. Therefore, the display cases had to go out for bid, causing the delay. There was some discussion about having the Friends account go through the university. Previously the Friends had an account separate from the university. It was suggested that this be addressed at the next meeting and discuss the Friend’s account with Mike Moser.

NEW BUSINESS

President Ann Albrecht asked the members to be thinking about a nominating committee for the 1999-2000 Officers and Board of Directors to replace the people on the board that are going off next year. Ann suggested getting more community people involved because there seemed to be more university people on the board and as officers than community people. She also mentioned that there were several community people who have been active and showed interest in actively participating in the Friend’s group. Ann thanked Mrs Cleveland and Mrs Maddox for being actively involved in the Friends group. Ann will ask for volunteers to serve on the nominating committee at the next meeting.

Mrs. Cleveland suggested that we send Mary Ann Lipford a card. Pat Cockerell offered to take care of getting a "thinking of you" card and sending it.

The meeting adjourned at 4:25.
