Departmental Welcome

Greetings from the Department of Educational Administration, Counseling, and Psychology at Tarleton State University. My name is Bob Newby, and as Department Head, I am pleased to welcome you to our website.

The purpose of this site is to allow you to investigate our department so as to learn about our faculty, our students, and our staff. Some of you may be interested in the graduate and undergraduate programs offered by our department, while others may be interested in the research activities of our faculty.

The department is a community of scholars with expertise ranging from school law and supervision to school counseling and marriage and family therapy to paranormal belief and the knowledge of beginning readers. The department has grown from 12 faculty in 1996 to 25 faculty currently.

The Psychology major is one of the largest at Tarleton State University with an enrollment of 190-200 undergraduate majors.

We offer six Masters degree programs including Educational Administration, Counseling, Counseling Psychology with emphases on the Licensed Professional Counselor and Marriage and Family Therapy, and Education Psychology with emphases on the Licensed Psychological Associate and School Psychology. We additionally offer programs leading to Principal Certification, Superintendent Certification, and School Counseling Certification.

Tarleton State University recently received approval to offer a doctoral degree in Educational Leadership. This degree is the first doctoral degree to be awarded by the University. We currently have a cohort group of fifteen students who have begun their coursework leading to the degree. More information about this program can be found on the Graduate page in the Academics section on our departmental website.

The department also offers two alternative degree and certification programs for Principals. These are the New Century Educational Leadership Program (NCELP) and the Collaboration of Educational Organizations Programs (CEO). The latter program is in collaboration with the Region XI Educational Service Center.

Sincerely,
Bob Newby
Professor and Department Head
