First Place - First Aid Assault Course
Three teams of cadets from Tarleton State University recently participated
in the annual ROTC Ranger Challenge Competition, held near San Antonio,
Texas, at Camp Bullis.
The Ranger Challenge is an annual competition that demonstrates both
individual and team proficiency and stamina in various technical and
tactical scenarios. The Ranger Challenge is considered to be the varsity
sport for Reserve Officer Training Corps programs. This year's competition
was held Oct. 17-18. Competitors came from 31 ROTC programs in Oklahoma,
New Mexico and Texas. Seventeen, including Tarleton State, sent coed
teams.
The purpose of the Ranger Challenge Program is to:
- Challenge cadets in tough mental and physical competition.
- Enhance leader development.
- Develop team cohesion.
- Develop healthy competition among the battalions.
- Team results will be used to determine by category Region nominations
for future competitive events.
- Serve as a highly visible and dynamic recruiting and retention vehicle.
- Team results will be used to determine by category Region nominations
for future competitive events.
The Ranger Challenge consists of an army physical fitness test, written
patrolling exam, land navigation course, disassembly and assembly of
an M16A2 rifle, first aid obstacle course, hand grenade assault course
and a 10-kilometer road march.
