An example of a sand-starved desert, the
Great Sandy in Western Australia contains aeolian sand dunes
that stretch for a hundred miles, ephemeral lakes in the center
and lower right, and light-colored scars from brush fires at
the top of the image. |

The 24 by 48 statute mile iceberg -- approximately
the size of Rhode Island -- is drifting off the southern coast
of Argentina at a speed of about 7 to 9 miles per day. The true
danger to mariners is not B10A itself, but the kilometer-wide
smaller icebergs breaking off as it melts. In the browse image
Landsat 7 bands 5, 4 and 3 represent red, green and blue respectively.
With that combination ice appears blue-white, high clouds are
white, low fog shows up as grays and browns, and water is shown
nearly black. |
