The Texas Society of Mammalogists was established in 1983 to promote the study of mammals, both living and fossil. Anyone with a sincere interest in the field of mammalogy is eligible for membership. Most members are professional scientists or students of the field. Organized meetings are held annually to provide the opportunity for students to present results of their research projects and to interact with professional mammalogists working in the state of Texas. The 2009 annual meeting will be held February 20-22 in Junction, TX . Victor Sanchez-Cordero from UNAM will be our guest speaker, and the tentative title of his presentation is "Identifying priority areas for biodiversity conservation and restoration using species' ecological niche modeling". Membership note: According to Article III of the constitution, membership applications are made by filling out a registration form for the annual meeting (even if you are not attending). This will serve as the application for membership when accompanied by $2.00. Mail the application to the Secretary-Treasurer. Applications for membership are approved by the Executive Committee when they meet each year. In 2007, TSM celebrated its 25th Anniversary. To commemorate that event, the Society published History of the Texas Society of Mammalogists (Vol. 52, Special Publications of the Museum, Texas Tech University).
