Q: May I still apply for BIEI support if I am applying for a Tarleton Study Abroad Scholarship?
A: Yes, the BIEI Student Study Abroad Grant is in addition to the Tarleton Study Abroad Scholarship. The BIEI Grant is intended for students who can demonstrate a financial need that would otherwise prevent her or him from doing a study abroad.
Q: Does the study abroad have to be for COBA course credit?
A: Yes, the study abroad must be taken to earn credit toward a COBA course. Preference will be given first to COBA majors, then to COBA minors, and finally to other majors taking COBA courses.
Q: What will be the amount of the BIEI Student Study Abroad Grants?
A: The Tarleton Study Abroad Scholarships may be for no more than 50% of study abroad expenses, not including tuition and fees. The BIEI Grant may be awarded for up to an additional 25% of study abroad expenses.
Q: How do I apply for the BIEI Study Abroad Grant?
A: The BIEI Grant qualifications are the same as for the Tarleton Study Abroad Scholarship. Once the course trip is approved for the Tarleton Scholarship, the student should complete the BIEI Grant application and follow the stated procedures. The BIEI Grant Awards will be made within two weeks after the Tarleton Scholarships are announced.
Q: Are there any obligations tied to receiving the BIEI Study Abroad Grant?
A: You may be asked to talk to other students or organizations about your study abroad, as well as assist with the BIEI business outreach activities.
Q: I can only apply for the Tarleton Study Abroad Scholarship if I am going abroad for a course credit. I want to attend a four-day student conference in Belgium. Will the BIEI Grant pay for the conference?
A: A few registration and travel BIEI Student Grants will be awarded. The application form is on the BIEI Website. The students selected and the conferences to be attended must be ones from which the students may learn and/or bring back significant international information with potential to benefit other COBA students and/or the COBA curriculum.
Q: My COBA student organization would like to invite an international speaker for one of our meetings. Will the BIEI Grant support such an activity?
A: Yes, some BIEI funds will support COBA student international activities on campus.
This application form is on the BIEI Website. Be sure to give full details about your proposed project and delineate how it may impact COBA students and/or curriculum. The application must be received at least 60 days prior to the proposed activity.
Q: May any COBA student make application for BIEI Student Grants?
A: BIEI Student Grants for conferences or student organization projects are available only to COBA majors and COBA organizations. Individual student applicants and organization representatives making application must be United States citizens.
